Walk No.4

Wainwright summits:            High Rigg

Distance:                5.5 miles

Ascent:                   1380 feet

Time:                      3h 45m

Weather:                    A bright sunny day with little wind.

We stopped off at Legburthwaite car park on our way to a cottage we had rented near Bassenthwaite to do this walk. We couldn't take the cottage over until 3pm so this was a good way of filling some time in.

As we ascended I took this picture of Raven Crag.

And also looking back down the valley with Great How on the right.

Higher on the ridge the Skiddaw Fells came into view.

Getting nearer the summit comes into view.

Edith on High Rigg with Blencathra behind.

There was a bit of a breeze by now as you can see by my hair.

Clough Head from High Rigg.

Blencathra from High Rigg.

Tewet Tarn in the foreground with Lonscale Fell on the left and Blease Fell on the right. The point in the far centre is Great Calva.

The Skiddaw Fells from High Rigg.

Edith is ready to move on.

Dave is more reluctant. We eventually returned to the car via a bridleway down St.John's in the Vale.

Next Walk:   19th September 2006 -- Dodd from the Ravenstone Hotel

Last Walk:  13th September 2006 -- Loughrigg Fell and Silver How from Ambleside
