Walk No.6

Wainwright summits:            Binsey

Distance:                2.0 miles

Ascent:                   680 feet

Time:                      1h 00m

Weather:                   A fine but overcast day. It was very windy on the summit.

This was only a short, quick up and down walk done from Binsey Lodge. Why A.Wainwright included it in his guide for the Northern Fells puzzles me. Maybe he had a wicked sense of humour and wanted to send others to these out of the way places. Maybe that the guide for the Northern Fells contains the least number of summits.....who knows? Anyway it's in there so it as to be done!

The path up Binsey from the lodge is easy walking, perfect for the young ones. The water you see is Overwater.

Walking up from the lodge it had been quite breezy but at least it was moving the clouds past.

Once on the summit though we lost any shelter we had and as you can see from Ediths expression it was very blustery.

Of course I tried to look a lot more composed!

Looking towards the Northern fells. To the right of the dip is Bakestall with Skiddaw in the clouds.

Taken on our descent back to the lodge. Bassenthwaite Lake with the North Western fells.

The sun kept breaking through the clouds giving some contrasting pictures.

Next Walk:   21st September 2006 -- Outerside and Barrow from Uzzicar

Last Walk:   19th September 2006 -- Dodd from the Ravenstone Hotel
