Tarn Crag and Blea Rigg

Date:          18th February 2007                    Distance:    8.75 miles                Ascent:    2308 feet                Time:    6h 00m

Weather:          Fine and sunny.

Route:             We left the car at Grasmere and walked up Easedale Road to take the path up Far Easedale.

A fine and sunny early morning in Grasmere.

From the village centre we walked up Easedale Road.

At the end of Easedale Road we went round the house to pick up the path up Far Easedale.

Looking across to Sourmilk Gill which is the outlet from Easedale Tarn. We walked up Far Easedale to the stepping stones before turning up on to the rising ridge to Tarn Crag.

On the rising ridge path to Tarn Crag.

Looking back down into Far Easedale.

The last pull up to the summit which is the pointed bit on the right.

Edith on the summit of Tarn Crag.

Dave on Tarn Crag. From here we made our way off-path down to Coledale Tarn.

Taken from Tarn Crag this shows the Gibson Knott - Calf Crag ridge in the foreground with Steel Fell behind and the Helvellyn Fells in the distance.

Coledale Tarn. Unlike its larger partner Easedale Tarn usually free from the masses. We stopped here for a "butty break" before joining a path which would lead us up to the Blea Rigg - Sergeant Man ridge.

Looking back to Coledale Tarn from the path to Blea Rigg.

Easedale Tarn from the Blea Rigg ridge.

Edith on Blea Rigg

Dave on Blea Rigg. From Blea Rigg we took a path that led us down to Easedale Tarn.

Easedale Tarn. Unbelievably there was a young lady about 8 years old at the tarn paddling in February!!

As we made our way down from the tarn back to Grasmere there were still a number of people on the way up.

One of the waterfalls of Sourmilk Gill.

From here it wasn't far back to Easedale road and Grasmere.
