Walk No.34

Harter Fell and Hard Knott

Date:            2nd June 2007                 Distance:    9.75 miles              Ascent:         2730 feet                   Time:            6h 30m

Weather:       Fine and sunny   

Route:           We did this walk straight from Wha House farm where we were staying for the week.  

We just walked up to the road and turned right then followed it to Jubilee Bridge where we took the Eskdale to Dunnerdale bridleway

Looking back to the Scafells

Getting higher along our route Whin Rigg and Illgill Head show behind Eskdale Moor. Around this point we left the bridleway on a path to the left heading towards the summit of Harter Fell

Getting near to the summit now and it was a little breezy here so we put on the fleeces.

From Harter Fell our route took us down towards the area where the trees have been felled and then to the summit of the Hard Knott pass. Hard Knott fell is in the centre with Esk Pike, Bowfell and the Crinkle Crags behind

We have just crossed the road over the pass here and looking back to Harter Fell.

There was a Fell Race today and this was check point on the route

The leader of the race. These guys are a different breed, what stamina. From Hard Knott we kept to the crest of the ridge as it descended N'wards to Lingcove Beck.

We have now arrived at Lingcove Beck from where we turned left to follow the beck down Lingcove Bridge

Lingcove Bridge. This is where Lingcove Beck joins the River Esk

Waterfall just below the bridge. From here it is about  1.75 miles down the valley back to the road at Brotherilkeld
