Route: | Clapham - Ingleborough Cave - Gaping Gill - Ingleborough - Sulber Gate - Clapham |
We left the car at Clapham near to the main car park
The footbridge over Clapham Beck
The outfall from the artificial lake
The lake...from here it is a pleasant walk up past Ingleborough Cave to Trow Gill
The path through Clapdale Wood
Higher along the path Ingleborough Cave comes into view
The entrance to Ingleborough Cave, well worth taking a tour if you have time.
Approaching Trow Gill
Trow Gill
An old "entry point" into the cave system now blocked up
Ingleborough comes into view for the first time with the summit in cloud
A little further along the path crosses the walk at this double stile
The path up Little Ingleborough can be seen plainly
But first a small diversion to Gaping Gill
The beck is diverted for the Winch meets
On the path up Little Ingleborough looking back down
Pen-y-ghent from Little Ingleborough. I am told it means Mountain of the Wind but I could have been sold a dummy!
The path to Ingleborough from Little Ingleborough. It was at this point that the cloud came down again resticting summit views
A brief opening allowed this view towards Pen-y-ghent
The summit cross-shelter on Ingleborough
Edith on the summit
Dave on the summit
From the summit we took the 3 Peaks route towards Horton in Ribblesdale which runs along the flank of Simon Fell
As we descended the cloud lifted from the summit for a short period
Pen-y-ghent from our path down with I believe Fountains Fell to the right in the distance
The old shooting hut .......I seem to recall it having a roof the last time I passed by here
This is where we left the 3 Peaks route to turn right to Clapham (3.75 miles) according to the signpost. The 3 Peaks path carries straight on to Horton via Sulber Nick which can just be seen. It's the V near to the right.
On the bridleway back to Clapham. The paths round here make for such easy walking.
Moughton Scars
THe path goes over Long Scar then starts to drop into Clapdale. The trees in mid picture are to the left of Trow Gill.
Still on the bridleway as it enters the walled "Long Lane".....believe me it seems to go on forever
From Long Lane looking across to Trow Gill
A little further down people are waiting for the next tour of Ingleborough Cave
Meanwhile the lane continues
Nearing Clapham now, just past this point the track goes through two tunnels
before entering Clapham near the Church
Finally....back to the car.
Next Walk: 13th July 2007 -- Crook of Lune from Lancaster
