Distance: | 5.00 miles | Weather: | Fine and mostly sunny but breezy |
Route: | High Nibthwaite - Brock Barrow - Low Light Haw - High Light Haw - Arnsbarrow Hill - Arnsbarrow Tarn - Top o' Selside - High Nibthwaite |
Our intention today was to have a short walk and to try to capture some late Autumnal colours in the Coniston Water area of the Lake District. We left the car near to High Nibthwaite which is on the eastern side of Coniston Water at the southern end. The outward leg of the walk although on low fells is quite hard going at times. Paths are narrow and numerous and although the bracken now poses now problems the heather makes the going quite hard at times. We had looked at Wainwrights route in his Outlying Fells book and decided to stay to that for the most part apart from a slight diversion to Arnsbarrow Hill and Arnsbarrow Tarn.

Taken into hazy sunshine the start of our descent down to our return track
The weatherman on Radio Cumbria had given a fine start with thickening cloud in the afternoon. Looks like it arrived early here as it was only about 11:15am
Our return route was on an old cart track now an unclassified road. As we walked along we met these 4x4's doing whatever turns them on.

A look back
The final section of the track does a couple of zig-zags as it returns us to our starting point
Back at High Nibthwaite now, we decided to visit what is shown as the Quay. On the way we passed this fellow. He seems to be thinking, " If I could get these legs moving I wouldn't mind going up that Beacon Fell"
From the Quay it was only a couple of minutes back to where we had left the car.
