Route:    Ingleton - Crina Bottom - Ingleborough - Little Ingleborough - Old Road nr Cold Cotes - Ingleton

We had been undecided where to go today. Our original choice had been Great Gable in the Lake District but some controversy over the leaving of poppies on the summit which I was opposed to swung our decision to Ingleborough. Other benefits would be a later start, easier parking and a summit virtually to ourselves. We left the car at Ingleton village car park which at £3.00 for the day is reasonable and regular readers will know how averse I am to car park fees.

Ingleborough from the car park at Ingleton

We walked up through the village to gain access to the fells at Fell Lane. There were some dark clouds about but we never got any rain. The nearest we came to any was this rainbow over Twistleton Scars with a sunlit Gragareth behind

Approaching Crina Bottom farm with Ingleborough behind

Getting higher. This section of path is very hard to maintain, sections have been "washed out" and the path becomes a gully

Gaining height the views started to appear. It was hard going for me along this stretch up to the summit. I started to get cramp like aches in both calfs. Fortunately when the climbing was over they disappeared.

Taken from just below the summit looking down onto Twistleton Scars with Gragareth behind

Looking back down or path towards Ingleton. The two people you can see were on there way down

Looking down to Ribblehead with Blea Moor behind

Looking along Souther Scales Fell to Park Fell

Ingleborough summit Trig point

Edith "carefully" places our poppies within the cairn where they will stay till we next return or untill 11/11/08

Looking over Simon Fell towards a dark Pen y Ghent

The start of our path down to Little Ingleborough

Taken into the sun looking down to Gaping Gill

The path ahead over Little Ingleborough and down to Gaping Gill. Our path however is the smaller one going off to the right

A look back to the summit

Looking over to the Coniston Fells

Looking down to Morecambe Bay

I've always admired this cairn. It looks like it could topple over any moment yet as weathered may storms.

Wonder if that was the builder back in 1928

Looking over White Scars towards Black Combe

This is what I had been waiting for. An old sheepfold!!!.....but there's more......

Now you see......Twin seats, complete with back and arm rests.....Just right for a butty stop

and a view of home thrown in..........but wait.....there's more......

For those of a shorter stature there's even a footstool!

A Lakeland close-up from the butty stop

After a brief stop we continued down towards the old road between Ingleton and Clapham

Who's going to tell me?

Update: Sheila from Gosforth --- Hygrocybe coccinea or Scarlet Waxcap

This is where we exited the fellside onto the old road for the short walk back to Ingleton

Passing this lovely old church on the way back

Before long we were back in Ingleton
