Walk No: | 106 | Time: | 3 hours |
Date: | 17th December 2007 | Parking: | By the canal near the A6 between Boltin le Sands and Carnforth |
Distance: | 8 miles | Weather: | Fine, dull at first then sunny, cold |
Route: | A walk along the canal and back from Bolton le Sands and Borwick |
It was such a nice morning that after Edith had done the shopping we nipped up the road in the car to Bolton le Sands for a walk along the canal. The trouble with "out & back" walks is tend that you tend to forget you have the "back" bit to do. This was the case today. By the time we got back to the car by back was damn sore. Anyway here's the pictures, it was a bit dull at first but brighter later.
We left the car on a small parking area between the A6 and the canal on a rather frosty morning.
Seems OK here. Ducks enjoying the water.....perfect
Further along a different story. Canal frozen, Ducks with cold feet.......who needs winter!
Approaching Carnforth and this is the "Waterbus" that runs up and down the canal between Carnforth & Lancaster in the summertime
Leaving Carnforth now (yes I know I missed Carnforth out, but unfortunately like the Canals in other town centres it gets a bit tatty)
This is the Canals first encounter with the M6 on its route northwards and this time the canal remained unscathed. This is the slip road at Junction 35
Sunlight on Warton Crag from the canal. Fortunately the muck-spreading in the adjacent field must have frozen, or at least the smell had.
Encounter No.2 with the M6. Here the canal passes under the M6 through a tunnel approximately 180 feet long. Unfortunately the next encounter at Tewitfield would end in defeat for the canal.
Looking over the still flooded fields to Hutton Roof Crags
And to Farleton Fell
and back to Warton Crag
The day was getting brighter now encouraging the "Boss-Lady" to stride out
The Railway Viaduct over the River Keer
Looking down on the River Keer as the canal passes over it.
Houseboats moored near Capernwray
This is as far as we would go today. A couple of hundred yards past this bridge is where we started our walk on the 13th December 2007
Back in Carnforth at the Marina. By now my back was really giving me some gyp. In retrospect I should have gone in the pub for some liquid analgesic leaving Edith to go far the car. Well it seemed a good idea.
Thankfull nearly there. The car is at the other side of the bridge. If nothing else this walk as shown me that I am far from ready to venture onto the high fells just yet.
Next Walk: 5th January 2007 - A walk around the Glasson area
Last Walk: 16th December 2007 -- Kirkby Lonsdale walk
