Route:   Conder Green - Glasson Dock - Upper Thurnham - Lancaster Canal (Glasson Spur) - Conder Green

This was to be a little tester to see if my recent problems (foot, back/leg pain) had improved. It was therefore fairly short and on the level. The route was over a mixture of bridleways, farm lanes, field paths and the canal tow-path. The field paths were very wet and slippy after the recent rain as was the canal towpath.

10am at Conder Green picnic site and I was surprised at how many cars were parked there.

Taken from the old railway bridge over the River Con (now part of the Lune Estuary path) looking across the River Lune to Overton.

Taken from near Glasson Dock and looking back to Conder Green. The bridge is the one over the River Con. Clougha Pike is in the background.

Taken from the road bridge over the canal ,looking towards the freshwater Marina at Glasson.

And looking the other way towards the main canal which is about 2.25 miles and 6 Locks away.

As we took the field paths towards Upper Thurnham we passed this large group of Swans.

It's a few years since we walked these paths. Today the ground underfoot was very wet and the stiles/footbridges very slippy.

Passing by the secluded Thurnham Hall, a 12th Century Country House but now a timeshare complex

The beautiful Catholic church of Ss Thomas and Elizabeth. For more information and pictures click here it will open in a new page.

From the church we made our way across the fields towards the Glasson spur of the Lancaster Canal the embankment of which can be seen running across mid-picture.

Looking along our path back as we cross over the canal

And the other way to the Locks.

Breathe in Edith!!.....One of the advantages of carrying the camera is that you never get caught in embarassing situations. This may alter when I save enough pennies for a new camera and Edith takes control of this one.

It's hard to see here but the towpath was very wet & slippy in places.

Bailey Bridge

Feeding time......no taost for me at supper time!

Approaching the Mill Inn

As I was getting ready to take the next picture these two swans flew overhead. It was just a case of point and shoot, with the camera that is!

The Mill Inn, now an Hotel & Restaurant but with an history as a cloth mill in the 16th Century. The old mill race is still in situ.

The River Con

Edith makes more friends at Conder Green

"You keep her busy and I'll see if there's owt in her pocket!"

"Oh heck she sussed me!"......"Now I'm getting told off"

Final picture.....The Stork at Conder Green, a great place for a meal. Not sure how welcome we would have been with the amount of mud on us though.

Next Walk:       6th January 2008 -- Levens Park from Levens Bridge

Last Walk:     17th December 2007 -- A walk along the canal to Borwick from Bolton le Sands and back.
