Route: To the summit for a walk about & back

We hadn't gone out with the intention of a walk today but we did have the boots etc in the car. As I drove along the A590 towards Newby Bridge I had to put the fog lights on it was so misty. Thinking there may be the chance of a cloud inversion I headed for the nearest fell which was Gummers How. I was right about the inversion but unfortunately it didn't last long and the views were very poor and hazy. After visiting the summit we decided to visit National Trust park at Fell Foot.

Taken from near the car park looking across to Summer House Knott. It had been very cold overnight and out of the sun there was still a heavy frost on the ground.

Above the inversion the views were very limited. Only the outline of the Coniston Fells can be seen.

The summit of Gummers How was in brilliant sunshine however.

On the popular path to Gummers How. We were not the only ones about but there were only two other cars in the car park when we set off.

Indians?

As we gained height the cloud started to disperse. Summer House Knott is almost clear now.

and Windermere was coming into view

The trees lower in the valley still had that "frosted" look

Nearly there!

Back to the car park which was filling up rapidly by now

From the car park we drove down to the NT park at Fell Foot. There was still plenty of frost where the sun hadn't caught it.
