Edith was back in action today after missing yesterday and we had decided on a visit to the beautiful hamlet of Troutbeck in the South Lakes and a walk up Wansfell. Troutbeck is my kind of place, no commercialism apart from B& B's and holiday cottages. It is for those who love the quiet life.

We parked the car at Church Bridge and walked up to the village getting these views of Yoke,Ill Bell, Froswick and Thornthwaite Crag along the way.

As we walked along the quiet road to Nanny Lane the views were magnificent

Walking up Nanny lane and looking back to Sallows and Sour Howes

Wansfell summit

Our way ahead lay to the south and Wansfell Pike.

Red Screes

The Coniston Fells

Windermere

Too many to even start naming with Ambleside down in the bottom

A backwards look to Red Screes and the Kirkstone Pass

The sloping ridge of Red Screes in the foreground with the Fairfield Horseshoe behind

Windermere from Wansfell Pike

From Wansfell Pike we took the path towards Nanny Lane and Troutbeck but left this before Nanny Lane to take a permissive path which meets up with what is known as the Hundreds Road. It is a walled lane which eventually joins the bridleway between Troutbeck and Ambleside. The lane can be seen in mid picture.

The Coniston Fells from the Hundreds Road

The Crinkle Crags and Bowfell with the Scafell beyond.

If memory serves me correctly this Pillar is above the line of the Thirlmere - Manchester aqueduct.

Looking down Windermere into the sun from Robin Lane.

Looking across the valley towards Sour Howes

The village shop and post office. The seat used to have a beautiful tree behind it. When I asked the lady at the shop what had hapopened to it she told me that it had been felled because someone thought it had rot. Apparently when felled it showed no signs of rot.

The view from the seat

Oh yeah.....I forgot to mention that the shop/post office also sells hot drinks......can't remember the waitress's nme though!

From the seat it was only a short walk down to the car.
