I hadn't intended going for a walk today but a fine morning and a short meeting at Kendal was enough to tempt me once again to the Kendal Scars.
A little variation in my route to Cunswick Fell today. Instead of walking directly along the ridge I decided to drop down into the valley using Gamblesmire Lane.
On the way down I passed this old Lime Kiln
My route would take me past Cunswick Hall farm the roofs of which can just be seen
From the farm my route would take me through the woods on the left and then up through the woods on the right onto Cunswick Fell
The Kentmere Fells in close up
Cunswick Hall farm
I have left the first wood at this point and making my way to the second wood to go up onto Cunswick Fell. On the way I passed Cunswick Tarn. The mast on the skyline is where I left the car.
The path through Scar Wood up to Cunswick Fell
Cunswick Fell summit
The Coniston Fells from Cunswick Fell
A close up of the Crinkle Crags and Bowfell with the Scafells, Esk Pike and Great End behind.
Looking into Kentmere.
The Howgill Fells from Cunswick Fell
The camera can never capture what the eye beholds
Reluctantly I left the summit to make my way back to the car and onto Scout Scar. One last look back.
A close up of Cunswick Fell with the tarn below as I made my way up Scout Scar
A look across to Red Screes with the Fairfield Fells behind
Into the sun a look across at Whitbarrow with Arnside Knott in the distance
The decorated tree is still there in all its glory
The shelter
And I thought I knew this place!.....I must have walked past this seat scores of time and never noticed it before
Scout Scar summit
Coniston Old man with Dow Crag just peeping out behind
On my way back to the car along the scar edge
Perfection
The Langdale Pikes
And finally .......a last lingering look at the Kentmere Fells before dropping down to the car.
