We had decided on a local walk today as Edith wanted to spend a few hours in the garden in the afternoon.
Crag Foot from where we parked the car
The old Leighton Moss pumping station chimney is all that remains
Looking over to Jenny Browns' point from our route up Warton Crag
The old coach road
One of the many paths on Warton Crag.
Caw and the Conistons
Warton Crag summit
Looking over Jenny Browns point and Grange over Sands to a distant Black Combe
A close up of Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man
A view down the bay to Heysham
Looking over Whitbarrow to the Fairfield Fells and Red Screes
A close up of Ingleborough with the Dock Acres holiday complex at the bottom right
Walking through Leek Hill wood on our way to Leighton Hall
Leighton Moss from Summer House Hill
Leighton Hall
Walking to Leighton Moss
The causeway across Leighton Moss RSPB sanctuary
Near Leighton Moss which is a bird sanctuary we came across this pen where pheasants were being reared to be shot. Seems pointless to me. If they taste that good why not just sell them to the supermarkets and cut out the killing bit!
The RSPB information centre and tea room ........Tea and Scones were delicous
Walking towards Heald Brow and Fleagarth Wood we had this view down over Leighton Moss
No relation......the air was rich with the smell of wild garlic as we took the path through the wood
Over.....
and Under!
These Limestone rocks have puzzled me for years. Can those grooves have just been made by the action of water running down them?
Nearly to the shore and looking over to the car and Warton Crag
And finally.......Just a short walk back along this embankment to the car. The right hand side is the seaward side. You can see how close the sea was to going over the embankment recently by the tide-mark of assorted rubbish.
Next Walk: 21st March 2008 -- Nicky Nook from Scorton
Last Walk: 18th March 2008 -- Cunswick Fell and Scout Scar
