I was by myself today as Edith as been laid up with a stomach bug for a day or two. Only another shortish walk in our local area as I was late starting and had to be at the eldest granddaughters birthday party after school.
Having left the car at Eaves Wood car park I took a path towards Challan Hall
Approaching Challan Hall with some of the ponies in the foreground
Challan Hall
A first glimpse of Hawes Water which I would walk around
Looking across to Challan Hall
Walking to the Yealand Hall Allotment on my way to Yealand Storrs
Actually I'm leaving the reserve but there wasn't a sign where I entered it!
The path through Yealand Hall Allotment
Entering the village of Yealand Storrs, my path is on the right just past the first "wheelie bin"
A glimpse of Leighton Moss with Heald Brow behind
Brow Foot Farm
Leighton Moss
Looking down to Grisedale Farm with Heald Brow behind. Plenty of Dandelions in the field.
Approaching Leighton Hall Home Farm
Grisedale Farm
Leighton Moss
The causeway across the moss
I've been walking in this area for more years than I care to remember and have never walked this path before. It would hold a suprise for me.
Walking across the golf course watching for low flying objects.
This was my surprise. I have seen it marked on the map as " Works (dis)" but never knew of it's importance.
According to the notice board this was the birthplace of "tarmacadam", not all that high in my pecking order but imagine what life would be like without it.
Cottages ar Red Bridge. I assume these were linked to the quarry and to the works.
And finally......back to the car at Eaves Wood.
Next Walk: 5th May 2008 -- A Hornby Circular
Last Walk: 28th April 2008 -- A Silverdale walk from Crag Foot
