By myself again today. Ediths cold as turned into Brochitis so it was a visit to the Doctors this morning for some antibiotics. Not wanting me under her feet she readily agreed to me going on this "local" walk.
I left the car at Silverdale and walked across the fields to The Row and then into Eaves Wood
Eaves Wood car park
I was only in Eaves Wood a short time as I took a path to Waterslack
A delightful cottage at Waterslack
The farmhouse. Up to a few years ago the lane down here and the hedgerows were covered in limestone dust from the wagons that used the lane for access to the quarry.
The quarry is now closed and the area is peaceful
After visiting the quarry I took the path through Middlebarrow Wood for a short distance before diverting across field paths towards Arnside
Walking through the fields towards Black Dyke and Arnside. The emnbankment on the right carries the railway line to Barrow
A look across the fields to Arnside Tower and farm with the Knott to the right
Approaching Black Dyke farm and the air was filled with the aroma of wild garlic
Walking through Black Dyke farm
An old water pump which will soon be overgrown. From here I was walking on tarmac to Arnside
The railway viaduct across the River kent
And moments later.....complete with train
Arnside promenade and Jetty
My route now took me along the shore for a while
About halfway along this stretch I would take a path off to the left to climb up the Knott
My path through Red Hills
and the gentle climb up the Knott
There were lots of these.... I think they are a type of orchid but not sure which. I saw some later at Silverdale but these seemed different to those
Close up
On my way up the Knott
Bad hair day?
Arnside Knott summit
Looking over New Barns to Grange and Hampsfell
Looking towards Whitbarrow with the Lakeland Fells in the haze behind
Descending through Heathwaite
Hollins Farm
On the way back to Silverdale
A cottage near The Cove
Walking across Bank House
The church at Silverdale
There was a NT trust sign nearby which identified two types of Orchid......according to the sign this was a Green Winged Orchid but I'm not sure
This taller one was identified as an Early Purple Orchid
All I identified was buttercups and daisies.
And finally......back to the car
