We arrived at Sty Cottage about 11:30 and after unloading the car we decided to have a walk up Sale Fell before doing anything else. This was our second visit to the delightful Sty Cottage having been here last September. Wythop Mill is a lovely place to stay, handy for the Northern, North Western and Western Fells. We can thoroughly recommend the cottage.
Sty Cottage is the single storey building on the right.
The public car park at Wythop Mill was full. There are plenty of parking spaces near to the new church for this walk however.
Looking down on the cottage from above the bridge
and the bridge itself.....OK you've had a look around Wythop Mill now for the walk.
We set off along the lane back towards the Pheasant Inn
A look back to Sale Fell
The Sunday School
St Margaret's Church.....The new church
We took the path upwards from near the church
A look down into the Vale of Embleton
The white cross as had a coat of paint since our last visit
Looking down on the northern end of Bass Lake with Binsey behind
A look back over Lothwaite to the Skiddaw Fells as we start the final climb to Sale Fell
Sale Fell summit
Looking southwards to Lord's Seat and Broom Fell
Sale Fell as we start our descent
Descending to Kelswick
Kelswick
Before we returned we made a small diversion into Chapel Wood
to visit the old church
Brumston Bridge on the way back to the cottage
And finally......back to the cottage
