Since are weeks holiday in the Lakes all that I had seemed to have done was to sort through pictures and build webpages so when Edith said that she fancied a shortish walk it didn't take long for me to get the bags packed. I didn't want to try too much myself because on our return from Wythop Mill I had restarted the new medication for my Rheumatoid Arthritis after being told that the Lung function tests I had taken were OK.
Most visitors to the Lake District know of Tarn Hows and it is is a beautiful place. High Dam however for me surpasses Tarn Hows. Like the Tarns it is man made but it as not been developed on the same scale.
We left the car near the church at Finsthwaite
We walked to the village to take a path that leads to the main path up to High Dam
Entering Bell Intake
A short walk and climb leads first to Low Dam
Reflections in Low Dam
A short walk brought us to High Dam and for me a little disappointment. I was hoping for some relections but at the dam end the water was quite rippled.
High Dam outlet with not much water pasing over it
As we walked around High Dam we came across this overnighter.
At our highest point of the day and Edith takes a short break
We had met up with a group of school children as we walked around High Dam. Their chatter was a pleasure to listen to.
Success.....The eastern side was a lot calmer and relections were easy to capture
Back to the dam
Low Dam
With time on our hands we walked down to Stott Park Bobbin Mill for an ice cream
Part of the Lake Districts industrial past
