We had missed coming here on Saturday due to family committments but after seeing the pictures of fellow members of the Online Fellwalking Club and also those from Andy Beck from the Wainwright Society we said that we would try to get here during the week. It was a bit of a dull day weatherwise but nevertheless very enjoyable.
We left the car at the roadside at Muker and walked past St Mary's Church towards the hay meadows.
Seven glorious fields of colour
It's a good job we didn't have our daughter in law with us today or we wouldn't have got past here
Eventually we reached a very dry River Swale where we took the path up the western bank , the left hand side from here
Looking towards Swinner Gill where we would walk later
As we walked by this old barn we could hear a lamb bleating inside. After about 100 yards Edith had to go back to investigate
Mission accomplished!.....The little beggar had got it's head stuck between some old railings. We did see it reunited with mum who was about 50 yards away and not very concerned.
Further along the track we took a diversion down to Kisdon Force. It could have been a nice place to stop apart from the midges.
Meadow Cranesbill or so I'm told
We decided to follow the path to Keld.
Bisort
A pot of tea and a cake
On the way back to the footbridge that crosses the Swale and a look to where we are headed
Small falls near the footbridge
and the higher one above
A glance back to Keld as we gain height
We spent a few minutes watching both parents feeding their young in West wood
The old tractor where the path to Crackpot Hall turns off
A look down the valley with Kisdon to the right
Crackpot Hall ......From here instead of taking the main path to we dropped down to take a narrow track up the Swinner Gill. It meant losing height which we would have to reclimb but gives better views of the gill itself.
Our path up Swinner Gill
A long back as we climb back up to rejoin the main path from Crackpot
The disuded Swinner Gill lead mines
Crossing the gill for a look around. After a look around we crossed East Grain to take a path back along Arn Gill scar
Our return path ran along this edge.
A buttie-stop with a view.........
....both ways!
Approaching West Arn Gill
A brief glimpse of sunshine but it didn't last
We followed the path to Arn Gill which we crossed before dropping down to these old workings to pick up a path down through Ivelet Wood
The old miners track down through the woods ..... a delight to walk along
Nearing Ramps Holme bridge and a look to the hay meadows
Ramps Holme bridge
Back at Muker
Just over 5 hours later
And finally ......after changing the boots and dumping the rucsacs at the car another brew and cake......perfick.....just perfick!!!
