I was feeling a little better today and wanted a bit of a walk. The weather didn't look that promising but we decided on one of A Wainwrights Outlying Fells, namely Burney. The Wainwright route for this walk is only 1.5 miles in length but we extended it a little to have a bit of a look around. I had hoped to have also gone to Blawith Knott and Tottlebank Height but a series of showers meant these were left for a nicer day.

Looking over Moor House farm and the Duddon estuary to Black Combe

A look back to the car as we start the ascent

Getting higher and the windfarm on Lowick High Common appears

First view of the summit ahead

Great Burney summit trig point with Conistonwater to the right

A sombre looking Black Combe

Looking down to Little Burney with Blawith Knott and Tottlebank Height ahead

A close up of Tottlebank Height with Beacon Fell behind

We are now on Little Burney with Blawith Knott ahead. Caw and the cloud covered Consiston Fells are in the distance

Black Combe from Little Burney

A close up of the Coniston Fells as we descend to Subberthwaite Common.

A glance back at Little Burney. It was about this point that the showers started rolling in. We cancelled our plans to go to Blawith Knott and made our return along the lane to the Woodland road.

We tried to avoid the road as much as possible taking tracks over Heaththwaite Fell. Shown is Great & Little Burney from our return route.

We eventually ended up at Burney farm from where there was a short walk down the road to the car

Looking across the Duddon estuary to Millom

And finally......back to the car
