We were unsure where to go today. The weatherman on Radio Cumbria was promising a showery day as weather fronts moved across from Ireland. In the end I decided on the Dales thinking that if there was any rain then the Lakeland fells would take the main part of it. No idea if I was right or not about Lakeland but it did stay fine where we were.

Stainforth car park. Surprisingly quiet for a August Sunday. Our initial path would be a section of the Ribble Way which runs up the fellside behind the cottages.

We would follow this path till it meets what is known as Moor Head Lane. Looking back down the initial stage of the path.

As we slowly gain height a look across the valley to Smearsett Scar. Our return path would be to the left of the scar.

Still some way of Moor Head lane yet but a cloud topped Pen y ghent is just visible.

A little to the east Fountains Fell is also covered

A look back to Langcliffe Scar

Eventually we reached Moor Head Lane. This track crosses Moor Head from Helwith Bridge to Sannat Hall farm. We would follow it down to Helwith Bridge.

Looking down to Helwith Bridge. The old Helwith Bridge quarry on the left is now a trout fishery.

A glimpse of Pen y ghent now out of the cloud.

Helwith Bridge with Dry Rigg quarry behind.

Crossing the River Ribble at Helwith Bridge. From here we had a short section of roadside walking before we picked up the Pennine Bridleway.

A close up of Pen yghent over Helwith Bridge

Now on the Pennine Bridleway to Lower & Higher Bark farm and then to Feizor.

A cloud topped Ingleborough over Moughton

Higher Bark House

A "butty stop" before we descend to Feizor

Descending to Feizor

2 BIG mugs of Milky Coffe + 2 BIG Scones & butter ....£4.10.......can't be bad

Looking back down to Feizor as we make our way to Little Stainforth.

Smearsett Scar ahead

Looking back to Pot Scar

The day was brightening up nicely at this point

Fountains Fell

Pen y ghent

Approaching Little Stainforth

Little Stainforth

These young lads were enjoying jumping into the river by Stainforth Force. Although there was a lot of water coming down it's ok as long as you keep away from the force and its undertows itself. There is a deep hole below the lower fall

I wasn't quick enough to catch them but if you look carefully in the centre of the picture you will see two splashes where two of the young lads jumped in from the opposite bank.

And finally .....back to Stainforth

Next Walk:    5th August 2008 -- Lake District (SE) -- Green Quarter Fell from Kentmere
