A most peculiar day weatherwise. We left home in brilliant sunshine but as we got onto the promenade at Morecambe I could see that across the bay it was a far different day. It was very dark and misty so any thoughts of a trip to the Lakes were quickly shelved. Instead we headed for Arnside where we appeared to be virtually on the edge of the weather front. At times we were bathed in bright sunshine and at others in dull cloud. Apologies therefore for the pictures but it was the best I could do.

Arrival at Arnside in bright sunshine, yet across the estuary it looked dark and dull.

We appeared to be right on the edge of a weather system.

Bright sunlight on the viaduct yet Whitbarrow was barely visible

Our route was along the foreshore to New Barns seen in centre picture.

Looking across the estuary to Holme Island with Grange behind.

A look back and there ain't that much to see. The building on the right is part of the coastguard station.

Across the saltmarsh to New Barns

The muddy road to New Barns. Today we would walk the other way to take a path to Copridding Wood.

The path through Copridding Wood which climbs the southern end of the Knott

Out of Copridding Wood now and about to take a path up to the Knott through Arnside Knott wood.

Gaining a little height.

I think this picture best shows the weather of the day......to the left bright sunshine....to the right dark low clouds...in the middle US!!!....Looking over Heathwaite to Humphrey Head.

We are at the viewpoint just below the summit now and it does appear to be getting a little better across the estuary.

Arnside Knott summit

Our descent would be down Red Hills back to Arnside

A look over New Barns to Grange with Hampsfell to the right.

And up the estuary towards Sandside.

And finally back to Arnside where the tide as come in while we've been away.
