For those of you that are thinking of going onto the hills I would strongly recommend that you read the advice given by the Mountain Rescue organisation of England and Wales. Please make the time to read the advice page.

Firstly let me get the medication update out of the way. After taking the new medication (Sulfasalazine) for about 3 days Edith noticed an angry looking rash on my back. I continued taking the stuff for another 5 days during which time the rash had spread over my backside and down my legs to my knees. I then decided to stop taking it and within 3 days the rash as virtually gone. As I write this (31/12/08) I have not been able to contact the Rheumatology Clinic as they are closed until after the New Year.

For our final walk of 2008 I wanted to visit a couple of summits that I can't recall ever visiting before. These are the small fells of Summerhouse Hill and Lambrigg Fell. Those of you who travel northwards along the M6 will have probably seen them as they are on your left as you approach J37 near Killington Services. I have often wondered what the views would be like from them towards the Howgills and we weren't disappointed.

We left the car near to the entrance of Roan Edge quarry on the A684 and walked up past the quarry to take a bridleway towards Summerhouse Hill.

The gradient was gentle and the path good

A look back to the wond farm on Lambrigg Fell which we would visit later

As we gained height the quarry workings and the M6 came into view, easily ignored in favour of the magnificent Howgill Fells

A look over to Aye Gill Pike with Baugh Fell to the left.

This is the point were the bridleway leaves the quarry. After visiting this summit our route would take us back to the car then on to Lambrigg Fell in centre picture.

A look back as we ner the summit.

Summerhouse Hill summit with distant Lakeland Fells

Looking over Fisher Tarn reservoir to Benson Knott which overlooks Kendal.

Looking over Lambrigg Fell towards Grayrigg Common and the Northern Howgills

Baugh Fell, Aye Gill Pike and the northern tip of Middleton Fell

Killington Reservoir and Middleton Fell

On our way back down now and the Howgills look gorgeous. That's J37 of the M6 below.

OK...We've returned to the car and crossed the road to take a track over Lambrigg Fell.

We have left the main path to take a more direct route towards the summit. There are a number of "tops" but it's easy to visit them all.

Looking across the reservoir towards the Whinfell Ridge

Views from the summit

Making our way back to the car

A short diversion to visit the wind farm.

I was trying to set Edith up here by giving her some new ears for Christmas but it didn't work.

Back to the car...............and

a cuppa at Killington sevices before returning home.
