New Years Day and a beautiful frosty morning but unfortunately Edith was laid up with what later was diagnosed as Bronchitis. I therefore just went to my local favourite which never disappoints me. Unfortunately the weather despite being fine & sunny was also very hazy so any distance views were not there.
After leaving the car in Silverdale my route lay across the field to The Row.
Looking over to Eaves Wood from The Row
Eaves Wood car park, surprisingly nearly empty. When I passed this way later in the car however it was overflowing onto the road.
Making my way through Eaves Wood to Waterslack
The route follows the lane a short distance before turning right over the railway line.
Farmhouse at Far Waterslack
Passing the now disused Middlebarrow Quarry
My route now followed the railway line to Black Dyke farm on the outskirts of Arnside
A look over to Arnside Tower and Farm with the Knott behind
Approaching Black Dyke
Rather than walking into Arnside I took the path up through Hagg Wood to the Silverdale Road
After walking up the Silverdale Road for a short distance I took the path through Redhills Wood to nearly the far end before taking a rising path towards the Knott.
Looking back on Redhills Wood and a very hazy Whitbarrow
There were plenty of people about enjoying the day
Frosty trees near the summit.
Beetham Fell from Arnside Knott.
Summit Trig point
From the summit I made my way down to what is shown as a view point.
Unfortunately the views were limited that is unless you like views of guys in bright clothing.
On my way down to Heathwaite and Hollins Farm
A look back up Heaththwaite.
The young lad had just let the horse out of the stable and was having some difficulty breaking the ice in the bath with a hammer
Hollins Farm
On my way back to Silverdale now
The Cove at Silverdale. The group in the van had stayed here overnight. Hope they were warm enough, it was -5C when I paeked up according to the car.
Back in Silverdale
And to the car!!
