Our intention when we left home on a somewhat overcast morning had been to go to Coniston for a short walk along the waterside. However as we headed along the A590 the weather was brightening fast so we decided to do this little walk instead in the hope of getting some better views. I was slightly disappointed on reaching the top that the clouds refused to move from the Coniston fells despite hanging around for a while.
Gummer's How from near the car park. Very popular particularly at the weekends.
Looking down to Lakeside and Summer House Knott with Yew Barrow to the right.
From part way up and the same view
Cloud topped Conistin fells. There was quite a strong breeze so I was hoping that the clouds would be blown away.
Nearly there....the trig point appears.
Looking SW to Whitbarrow.
Edith on Gummer's How
Westwards to Caw
We walked over to the western edge of the summit for the views along Windermere.
Unfortunately, despite the strong breeze that haziness is still about. Here we are looking over Claife Heights towards the Fairfield fells with Red Screes and the "dip" of the Kirkstone Pass to the right.
The Far Eastern fells through the haze.
We wandered aimlessly around the top for a while hoping the cloud would move.
But this was as good as it got....The nearly Coniston Fells
Making our way down on a path further east than the one we ascended on.
Gummer's How hot tub.......any takers?....There was a 2p piece on the bottom but Edith refused to reach in for it.
A last look back
And finally ...back to the car
