We decided on a visit to the Dales today as the weather forecast was more promising for there than the Lakes. We left it till early afternoon to give it time to clear. It did try but as you will see not totally.
RA Update: I saw the specialist at Lancaster on Monday 2nd March and was told that they want to try giving me gold injections. I have to see the Rheumatology Nurse in April who will advise me what is involved (although I do have a good idea) and hopefully will start them then. He did give my right shoulder a good looking over which as been giving me quite a bit of gyp for a few a while. He said the problem was not the joint itself but the biceps tendon. This could be RA related or could possibly have been torn when I took a wee tumble on some ice at Kirkby Lonsdale a few weeks back. Either way he injected the tendon and hopefully it will help clear it up.
Latest Update: I got a telephone message from the Rheumatology Nurse last night and she can fit me in next Tuesday 10th March 2009.
We managed to find a parking space on the roadside in Clapham thereby avoiding car park charges :-)
The footbridge over the outfall from The Lake which becomes the River Wenning.
The falls from the man made lake in Clapdale
There is a new entrance to the Trail and Cave since the last time we visited. However today we were not using this track. I thought that with the gloomy conditions pictures would be poor in the valley bottom. The trail is a pleasant walk and for those wanting further info click HERE
The track we used was a about 30 yards past t'other and free!!
It leads to Clapgate Farm....at least thats what I call it and there were a few views.
Just walk straight through the farmyard.
There's always a downside....Some of the climbing is now lost as we descend into the valley.
Joining on to the Trail walk below.
The Bridge near Ingleborough Cave.
Ingleborough Cave ...not to be confused with White Scar Cave a few miles away. More info HERE
Our path continues over the bridge towards Trow Gill
Trow Gill....now a dry gorge but it was probably an underground cavern until the roof collapsed in although some believe it was a waterfall at one time.
A look down into Bar Pot
Heading for Gaping Gill. The sun kept popping through but there were banks of cloud sweeping over Ingleborough from the west.
A glimpse of Simon Fell as we approach Gaping Gill.
For more info on Gaping Gill you can do no better than to visit the site of the Craven Pothole Club who organise "Winch Meets" where you can be lowered down to the bottom of the main chamber for Nowt!!...Mind you, it does cost you to come back up!
Our return was to be over an area known as Clapham Bottoms and as we made our way there the cloud did lift on Little Ingleborough
This was the best it got though whilst we had it in sight.
Looking back to Simon Fell as we start our way over Clapham Bottoms.
Well at least the familiar profile of Pen y ghent was visible
With Fountains Fell in the distance
We are headed into the dip to pick up Long lane
At the top of Long Lane which at 1.5miles is appropriately named
Looking over to the entrance of Trow Gill
Looking back along the lane which runs between Clapham and Selside in Ribblesdale
A look over to Clapdale Farm with Clapdale Scars behind.
A look back along the lower section of Long Lane with Thwaite Scars to the right
And looking to Robin Procter's Scar and Norber.
On the way back to Clapham we passed through two tunnels
To emerge near the church.
From where it was a short walk down the lane back to the car.
Which had been convieniently left right opposite the cafe....Now that's what I call planning!
Next Walk: 1st March 2009 -- SE Cumbria -- Holme Park Fell
