For those of you that are thinking of going onto the hills I would strongly recommend that you read the advice given by the Mountain Rescue organisation of England and Wales. Just another short walk in my local area but this time on a mission to find the "Three Brothers". I'm not to sure what there signifance is apart from them also being called the rocking stones. Well I know I'm getting on a bit and not in the best of health but I reckon that a trio of strong guys, say for arguments sake, Samson, Hercules and Goliath would be well stretched to make the beggars rock. Another gorgeous day but a bit windy which didn't bother us apart from being on the summit of Warton Crag.

Please remember to sign the petition to give V.A.T Exemption to the Mountain Rescue Service. There is a link on the Homepage or do it right now by clicking HERE it will open in a new page. It will only take a minute or two.

Crag Foot from the car.

A short walk along the road leading towards the old quarry took us past the chimney of the old pumphouse that used to keep Leighton Moss drained.

Not far along the road the turn off onto the Old Coach road was taken on the left.

We haven't seen these chappies for a while. Despite some coaxing these refused to spread the tail feathers.

First glimpse of the top as we make our way along the coach road.

It was blowing quite hard but we were sheltered along here.

This is were we left the coach road to take the path to the summit.

It'a amazing how the trees manage to grow through the limestone pavements.

Warton Crag summit with Trig Point & Beacon

It was rather breezy stood on the edge of the summit. Here we are looking down on Jenny Browns' Point in the foreground with Grange & Kents Bank behind. Black Combe is centre picture in the far distance.

Looking over Arnside Knott to distant Lakeland Fells.

And S'wards into the sun down the bay to home.

Looking over Carnforth to Clougha Pike and Wards Stone.

Our descent took us along the eastern edge of the crag getting distant views of Gragareth and Ingleborough

Ingleborough close up.

Eventually we reached the gate back on to the old coach road. From here we turned right for a short distance before taking a permissive path through the area known as the Three Brothers.

Please check the notice on the gate because on certain days there is shooting carried out here.

Now it is many years since I last saw the Three Brothers and wasn't particularly impressed. The last time I was here with Steve & Lorraine from the Online Fellwalking Club they mentioned them but we didn't look for them. Today however we decided to have a look around.

It didn't take long to find them....3 large stones in a row. The third one is just to the right of second and partly hidden.

Verdict:   Still unimpressed!

Curiousity satisfied we made our way to The Piggeries.

From The Piggeries we walked up the road towards Leighton Hall for about 200yards before taken a signedposted path on the left.

This path will take us back to Crag Foot and is waymarked. Just watch out for this turn off on the right after about 540yards.

Get it right and you'll end up here overlooking Leighton Moss

Carry on following the waymarks and lots of footprints

And you'll soon be back at Crag Foot.

Next Walk:      25th March 2009 -- Lake District (SE) -- Cunswick Fell

Last Walk:       21st March 2009 -- SE Cumbria -- Reston Scar & Hugill Fell from Staveley
