The weatherman was promising a bright start to the day with the chance of rain later. As we progressed through this walk the cloud did thicken but with no rain. A gentle walk along good paths and farm lanes.

We left the car at Ings adjacent to the Watermil Inn.

The meadows here looked pretty impressive to.

A gentle walk along a gated lane

Patches of Bog Cotton in the wetter areas

At the second path on the right (a bridleway) we took the waymarked route through a small copse.

Dappled sunlight and the smell of Wild Garlic is still quite strong.

Emerging from the copse it was but a short walk past a field of buttercups to...

..Whasdike Farm

A first glimpse of the high fells

From Whasdike we took the path towards Schoolknott Plantation past the reservoir with the corrugated roof.

Entering the plantation

Leaving the plantation and looking to the Southern and Central Fells

A short climb on grass to us to the summit of School Knott

Despite the thickening cloud the views were magnificent.

After a while we walked down to the unamed tarn that AW calls Schoolknott Tarn.

Schoolknott Tarn.

Walking away from the tarn

To pick up the Dales Way which we shall follow for a while.

Last lingering look back before we lose them on our way to Hag End

On the Dales Way to Hag End

Hag End

Like a pig in muck!!....and watch that electric tape!

From Hag End it is a short walk down the lane to Outrun Nook and then across the fields to Crag House

Passing Crag House

Our path follows the wall to the left

A look back to Crag House

We continued along the Dales Way

To this point (I should have got Edith to point really) where we took a path to Borwick Fold.

Approaching Borwick Fold

At Borwick Fold we turned right down the road for a short distance before taking the gated lane back to Ings.

We passed High Fairbank along the way.

Nearly there!

Back to the car at the Watermill but one more thing first

A short walk down the road to St Anne's Church

Past it's best now but still a lovely splash of colour

Next Walk:      12th June 2009 - Lake District (SE) - Along and below the Kendal Scars

Last Walk:       7th June 2009 - Arnside & Silverdale AONB - Britains rarest wild flower
