An unusual walk today in that along the way we picked up a companion that gave us vast amounts of pleasure and was on the whole well behaved.

We left the car in Staveley but instead of heading for Reston Scar shown here we made our way along the kentmere road to do Hugill Fell first.

Lots of water coming over the weir at Barley Bridge as we passed

A few minutes walk took us to the driveway to The Bungalow. Little did we know at this point that we woukd be coming back here later.

The path up from the road is quite steep and was very wet and slippy. Much easier to climb than descend.

Just above the bungalow we were met by this lady. We knew she was from the bungalow as she had recently had pups and there was sign near the bungalow advertising them.

Gaining height with views across the valley to Brunt Knott and Potter Fell

And the ladys still with us.....Edith is having a look at her tag to find her name but there isn't one, just a mobile number

Now named "Here You" as in "here you, come here or Here you stop rolling in that". We di try to send her back and also tried to pass her onto a couple with a boxer who were descending but to no avail.

Nearing the AW summit on Hugill Fell

Yeah........still here!!

A look up the Kentmere valley. There were showers about but fortunately missing us.

Edith and Hey you on the AW summit. Edith was actually enjoying every minute of her company. It is about 14 years since we last walked with our last dog "Tiny" a Jack Russell who did all the Wainwrights with us.

Distant Langdales

Our next target was the highest point of Hugill Fell shown here.

And then to the top of Reston Scar shown here.

A look to Sour Howes and Sallows with the cairn known as Williamsons' Monument between them.

Cloud topped Kentmere Fells

We are now on the highest point of Hugill Fell. When AW wrote his "Outlying Fells of Lakeland" access to this pint was not possible without trespass. Today it is Access Land.

A look over to the AW top with Brunt Knott and Potter Fell behind.

Our route ahead to Reston Scar

Reston Scar summit and Hey You is on the lead because there are cows about and we didn't know how she would behave. Where did the lead come from?.....Edith as had it in her rucsac since Tiny was put to sleep 13 years ago. Knew it would come in handy one day!!!

Descending towards Kemp Tarn

Hmmm.....we had decided to take her to Stavely and drive back to the bungalow. Think it was around this point that I changed my mind.

Descending towards Staveley

On the lead again....there are sheep about.

From Sunny Bank there is a small lane that descends to Barley Bridge

A short walk back and she was reunited with her 5 pups who are seven weeks old and nearly weaned.

And finally....It's not "Hey You" it's "Jess". The pups are a result of a chance encounter on the fells with a Labrador.

Next Walk:      25th July 2009 - Lake District - West of Windermere walk

Last Walk:       20th July 2009 - Lake District - Lily & Loughrigg Tarn from Clappersgate
