We hadn't actually planned on walking today but a message on Facebook around 11am from one of our grandaughters asking if we could take here a walk made us change our minds. By the time we had sorted ourselves out and picked her up it was well afternoon so where to go? We had seen some splendid colours in Levens Park as we returned from the Lakes a day or two before so we decided on a route we did with Jill Batchelor from the Online Fellwalking Club and her family in July. For late October the weather was unusually warm although Sophie did try to keep her coat on for a while.
Route Map
Magnificent!....We had noticed these on returning from the Lakes and although maybe a few days to late to catch them at there best they still caught the eye.
The River Kent from Levens Bridge
Looking upriver as we walk along the eastern side.
The two ladies.....Sophie is our daughters child and rarely keeps still.
Magificent colours in the afternoon sun
You may just be able to make the deer out between the trees in centre picture
A mossy limestone seat
Sophie found a dry one to have a short break on. The coats open now, don't know how she's keeping it on.
Nearing the top of the park we spotted the Bagot Goats
Cottages at the top of the park.
Leaving the park we had a short road walk before picking up the path along the dry section of the Lancaster Canal
The ladies go to investigate the Hincaster Tunnel
Leaving the canal now to make our return to Levens
A reet la'all worrit....but I love her to bits.
Passing Hincaster Hall....more info on Hincaster & the Tunnel HERE Opens in new window
Hazy Howgills
Approaching High Barns with Whitbarrow ahead. The last time we were here we made the mistake og going through the farmyard instead of around it.
No problems now...There's a new sign in place
Cottage at High Barns.
Unfortunately Levens Hall and the cafe were closed today so it was back to the car with a last look at those colours.
Next Walk: 30th October 2009 - Lake District - Scout Scar from Helsington Church
