As we drove along the promenade the views across the bay to Lakeland were fantastic. Any doubts as to where we were going today were quickly forgotten. Where else could be better?
These were the views as we drove along the promenade.....to the Lakes it is then!!
Wetherlam from where we left the car at Elterwater.
Setting off towards the village with the Langdales ahead.
Elterwater village green with the Brittania Inn.
Elterwater bridge over Great Langdale beck.
We set off down the beckside path towards Skelwith Bridge with this view of Loughrigg ahead of us.
A look back to Elterwater village
Looking back as we followed the beckside path
A look back before we enter the wooded part of the walk
The path through the woods.
On leaving the wood the views from Elter Water were beautiful.
Lingmoor
The majestic Langdales
It would have been easy to linger and indeed we did for a short while before following what is now the River Brathay downstream.
Wetherlam
A last look back at the Langdales before we enter the section to Skelwith Bridge.
The "new" bridge built so walkers didn't have to use the road at Skelwith Bridge.
Passing by Skelwith Force.
Cottages at Skelwith Bridge
And the bridge itself.
From Skelwith Bridge we took the quiet road to Tarn Foot and then to Loughrigg Tarn.
The sheep are enjoying a bit of sun with Loughrigg behind.
To the west the clouds were thickening.
We decided not to go down to the tarn. There would be no relections, instead we stayed on the path running past the cottages
Bowfell peeps out above Oakhowe Crag on Lingmoor
Wetherlam and Swirl How
Oaks....we continued on this path to join the road near Red Bank and then left to High Close
High Close
The higher fells were catching a few snow showers all this time.
Wetherlam
Another shower passes over Bowfell
Making our way back down into the valley with Wetherlam & Lingmoor ahead
As we dropped back into Elterwater it was our turn for a brief flurry of snow.
Back to the car.
