After what had seemed like weeks we awoke today to a blue sky and the sun. However according to the weatherman on Radio Cumbria this was not to last as a band of rain was due later in the day. We set off with two destinations in mind one in the Lakes and this one which was picked after we saw that there was still still a bit of cloud over the south Lakes although the fells were visible. Only another short walk as my chest is still troubling me but after recent murky days it was a delight every short step of the way.

From the car we took a path contouring around the eastern side of the Knott through the woods. The woods seemed to be alive this morning with grey squirrels and we spent some time enjoying them.

The path we were on reaches a wall where it starts to climb. After a short climb the path splits and normally we take the left one which goes straight up to the summit. Today however with the sun we took the right hand path which leads out onto the open field of Red Hills.

Although the views were not at there best today it was just a pleasure to see some distance.

Whitbarrow and the Far Eastern Fells

Grange over Sands and Hampsfell over the Kent estuary.

Looking down Red Hills

Close up Conistons

I love this view

Breathless on the Knott ;-)......requested by J.Woodgate....heaven knows why!!

A seat with a view

"Hello, remember me?".....regular readers may remember Wally who we met with his owner up here in March 2009

Wally as become a regular reader of Wainwright Wanderings since we met him HERE last year.

Looking over New Barns to Humphrey Head, Kents Bank and Grange

Edith has a bag of dog biscuits and is making lots of new friends along the way.

Looking back as we descend down Heathwaite

Do goats like dog biscuits?....well this one at Hollins Farm didn't.

Looking back to Heathwaite & the Knott. After this point the clouds started thickening from the west.

Taken as we walked across to the caravan park. I have mentiones this greeny/blue paperlike substance before but nobody seemed to know what is was. As it is being spread on all the field nearby and there is no livestock in sight I can only assume it is some kind of soil conditioner/fertilizer.

Into the sun, a look down the bay to home.

From the caravan park we took a path to Arnside Tower. The green stuff is everywhere.

Walking along the lane to Arnside Tower.

Arnside Tower farm and the clouds are thickening fast.

A look back to the farm and tower as we back to the car.

A wintry close up of Ingleborough.

Next Walk:      29th January 2010 - Lakes - An Elterwater circular

Last Walk:       25th January 2010 - Yorkshire Dales - A Kirkby Lonsdale circular
