Today's short saunter was a circular walk from Devils Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale. Kirkby Lonsdale although in Cumbria just falls with the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Our walk would follow a riverside path, field paths with a short section along a quiet road.
We parked the car near Devil's Bridge and walked to the bridge.
Looking down the River Lune from Devil's Bridge to the A65 road bridge.
And upriver....with our path to Kirkby Lonsdale on the left.
Devil's Bridge from the downriver side.
And from the path to Kirkby Lonsdale
This is a very popular path although today we had it to ourselves
Approaching "The Island"
Just befor this point there is a lane into Kirkby Lonsdale but we carried on a short way to...
...the Radical Steps....86 of them to be exact!!
After two days of misty walks this was much better Ruskins View made famous by the painter Turner.
After enjoying the views for a while we took a path above the river at first then dropping down into the fields near the river.
After crossing the stream we would take apath alongside the fence towards Home Farm.
The stone bridge we crossed seemed a little excessive for the stream.
Big tree....little lady
Zooming in on Middleton Fell
Brownthwaite Pike
Home Farm....Underley Park
From Home Farm it was a simple stroll along the quiet B6254 back to Kirkby Lonsdale
No idea what it is but those gateposts looked impressive.....pity about the wheelie bins!
Back to Kirkby Lonsdale and St Mary's Church
A quiet Main St (l) and the Market Square is a car park today (r)
The chippy in Kirkby Lonsdale is shut on Sundays and Mondays so......
....it wqs a Bacon bun and tea eaten Al fresco by the riverside.
Where we soon had plenty of company..
There's always one who arrives late and gets nowt!!.....A mopey Mandarin.
