Another fine day forecast so it was back to the northern Lake District. There was a slight haze but nowt to bother about.

North Western Fells from the car at Castlerigg

The Castlerigg Stone Circle with Latrigg, Little Man and Lonscale Fell behind.

and with Blencathra as a background.

From the Stone Circle we followed Castle Lane towards the A591 with views over to the Whinlatter Fells.

A look back to Blencathra

Causey Pike, Sail and Eel Crag tower over Outerside.

Clough Head

A look towards Bassenthwaite Lake

After walking down the A591 a short way we took a path near Low Nest across the valley towards High Rigg.

Low Nest with Blencathra behind.

Partly into the sun Brown Cove Crags and Lower Man

Passing Sykes with Low Rigg behind.

A look back across the valley with Sykes below us.

Walking up the lane towards the Church.

St John in the Vale church

From the church our path would be past Low Rigg towards Tewet Tarn. Looking over to Threlkeld Knotts and the crags of Clough Head.

North Western fells from near Low Rigg.

Looking over to Goosewell Farm to Carl Side with Little Man and Lonscale Fell to the right.

Blencathra with Tewet Tarn below.

Looking up the Glenderattera valley to Great Calva

Tewet Tarn

We descended from Tewet Tarn to the road where we turned left to make our way to Naddle Bridge.

From Naddle Bridge we took the field paths up to Goosewell Farm

Goosewell Farm from here it is only a short walk back to the car.

But first back to the Stone Circle to get this view of the Helvellyn Ridge from Clough Head to Little Man that I coudn't get earlier because of the sun.

Meanwhile Edith takes 5 on one of the stones.....5,000 years of weathering make them no softer.
