After a very poor morning weatherwise around midday it started to brighten so we decided to pop up to Cleabarrow to see if we could get some views.
It was quite bright as we set off along the lane with the private fishing tarn below us. I didn't bother going down to it as there was a bit of a breeze so no reflections.
Plenty of snowdrops about but the daffodils have still not flowered.
A first view of the Conistons over Claife Heights
Red Screes ahead as we walk along the Dales Way
There is no sign of the "new" tarn receeding
Continuing along the Dales Way (l) and then a turn right and upwards (r)
The Dales Way goes off to the right through the gate near the trees. That will be our return route, for now we continue ahead.
Approaching what seems to be populary known as School Knott tarn nowadays although not named on the OS map.
From the tarn a path turns left and uphill towards School Knott
A look back over the tarn to Grandsire which will be our next top.
For a not too bright day the views weren't at all that bad. Here the Coniston fells over Claife Heights.
The Crinkle Crags and Bowfell with the big fella behind them.
Over the top of Wansfell a snowy Fairfield with Red Screes to the right
The Howgills and Grandsire
We hung about for a short while to see if it would get any better but the sun was getting through in short patches.
A better one of the Langdales.
Passing the tarn on our way to Grandsire.
A short break for air on the way up Grandsire gave this opportunity.
Grandsire summit and the Howgills
The Kentmere fells catch a little sun
N'wards to Kirkstone over Banner Rigg
Errr....Have I mentioned the Crinkles and Bowfell before?
A look homewards
Looking over Reston Scar to Brunt Knott
Making our way down to rejoin the Dales Way
An old ruin and an even older one to the left.
There's the gate shown in an earlier picture.
And finally....back to the car which looks like it as been put up for sale.
