By myself today for this short but absolutely delightful walk from Staveley. A beautiful day , my favourite valley and good views, what more can you ask for!

I drove through the centre of the village and parked on the old road with this view of Reston Scar.

A short walk up School Lane onto Brow Lane brought me to the lane up to Sunny Brow.

A look back from the reservoir towards Potter Fell over Spy Crag.

From the reservoir the good track steepens a little to zig-zag its way up to a gate, go through this gate and take this one on the left.

Gaining a little more height the Howgills come into view.

Kemp Tarn

Almost there and a glimpse of things to come.

Do I really need to add anything!

The Conistons

Crinkles , Bowfell and Langdales + others.

The way ahead. This part of the walk as only been made possible by the area being made Access Land. When AW wrote his Outlying Fells of Lakeland book the highest part of Hugill Fell seen ahead was out of bounds.

Instead AW picked Black Crag in the centre of this picture as his target.....but it does give splendid views as we will see later.

The walk down through the new plantation to the gate was a delight every step of the way.

After a short climb the cairn on Hugill fell was reached, once again offering fantstic views.

The Conistons over Banner Rigg

Sour Howes and Sallows with a snowy Red Screes behind.

Looking to the head of Kentmere

After a good look around I made my way over to Black Crag and AW's top.

I remember this cairn as fine built tribute to its builder. After a few knock-downs it as lost a little something but thanks to whoever did their best a couple of years back.

The view across Potter Fell to the Howgills

One of my favourite views.

Across the valley to Brunt Knott

Making my way back down to the valley.

As I approached the bungalow below the barking started and never stopped.

Regular readers will remember Jess who decided to come a walk with us on the 23rd July 2009 despite having a litter of puppies at home. Today she wasn't in the mood for being photographed. I spent a few minutes chatting with her owner and was pleased to hear that all the puppies had been found homes.

A peaceful River Kent as I walk back to Staveley.

Not a lot coming over the weir at Barley Bridge

And finally....back to the car and back home to an earfull from the boss-lady for doing this walk without her.

Next Walk:    11th March 2010 - Lake District - School Knott from Cleabarrow

Last Walk:     8th March 2010 - Lake District - A Rydal circular
