A delightful walk around the valleys of Great and Little Langdale which visits two waterfalls and the well known Slater Bridge.

We left the car in the first available parking space at Elterwater and walked down to the village.

Elterwater Bridge which spans Great Langdale Beck. From here we took the path to Elter Water.

Plenty of lambs in the fields now.

A look back to Elterwater with Megs Gill and Spedding Crag behind.

A first view of the Langdales as we approach the woods alongside Elter Water.

Lingmoor and the Langdales across Elter Water.

Langdales in close up.

Lingmoor

Wetherlam, Swirl How and Great Carrs

We crossed the "new" bridge to avoid Skelwith Bridge and road walking.

Skelwith Force

We followed the well trodden "waterfall walk" path past Park House

Park Farm

The path now drops down to Colwith Bridge

Looking upstream from Colwith Bridge

The path from the bridge follows the beck until a turn off on the right is reached which will take you to the spectactular Colwith Force.

Returning to the main path there is another view to the top of the falls. From here the path meanders through the woods with some wet areas to reach an open field where a right turn will direct you down to....

High Park with Lingmoor behind. Bowfell is just peeping through the gap between Lingmoor and Pike O'Blisco.

From High Park we followed the lane down past Stang End.

Looking across Little Langdale

The footbridge over the beck which we walked past.

Slater Bridge....the photographers usually like to find this spot empty but I have no preference, it's there to be enjoyed....

.....shouts and screams from the youngsters as they paddled in the water, people walking by, others having picnics, this is as it should be. We are all visitors here, even those fortunate to live amongst the fells are only borrowing it for a while.

Little Langdale is a gem, it's fellsides may be scarred from its industrial past but it takes nothing away from the area.

From Slater Bridge we walked up to the minor road which leads to Wrynose and crossed it to follow the lane past Dale End farm back to Elterwater

From the top of the track we usualy divert left to take a path down towards Elterwater quarry but today we just kept on ahead.

Entering Elterwater we passed the Youth Hostel.

Great Langdale beck.

Elterwater and the Brittania was quite busy as we walked through.

And finally.....back to the car...now where did we leave it?
