After all the sunny days we have been having of late it was only a matter of time before we dropped for a bad one. Not that this could really called a bad one it was just overcast but still very close and warm. Our route took us through Limefitt Park and along the eastern side of the valley as far the cross wall at the northern end of Troutbeck Tongue. From there we crossed over the Tongue to take the path down Trout Beck to Troutbeck Park and then back to the car. On the way back we saw that a couple of the slate slabs that make the walkway on the old slate bridge were displaced. A subsequent enquiry ruled out the '09 floods so I do not know what happened. I sent an e_mail to the LDNPA in the hope that they will be able to put this right.

Early morning cloud on Ill Bell and Froswick.

Limefitt Park reception building.

Having walked through the caravan park we took the path upwards to bridleway that goes up the eastern side of the valley.

A look across the valley towards Troutbeck and Wansfell

Looking along the valley to Troutbeck Tongue surrounded by the higher Far Eastern fells.

There are lots of foxgloves about but most are hidden within the bracken clad slopes.

Approaching Long Green Head farm where around 30 odd years ago I had my only set-to with a farm dog.....a swift boot up the @rse did the trick.

The becks are almost dry

There wasn't many problems at the ford, I think Edith is looking for signs of life.

The southern end of Troutbeck Tongue. Tongue wasn't even on the menu today though.

Further up the valley we approach the old workings below Yoke

Here our path swings left to meet up with the footpath from Troutbeck Hall.

The track carries on along the valley bottom.

A look back along the valley as we cross the northern end of Troutbeck Tongue.

It was just a case of following the wall and then after passing through a sheepfold crossing the beck. It can be a bit wet around here but today in the dry conditions there were no problems.

Having crossed the beck we walked up the fellside to pick up the path coming down the valley from Threshthwaite Mouth.

This is a far better path, narrow and meandering down the valley.

It stays up above Trout Beck

Eventually we arrived at the old slate bridge that crosses Trout Beck.

Only to find that some damage had been done. One of the slabs was in the beck and another precariously balanced.

With little water coming down the beck it was hardly worth visiting the falls.

Approaching Troutbeck Park farm

Troutbeck Park

Our return started along the surfaced Ing Lane

and then along this path to avoid some road walking

And finally.....a drive to the Kirkstone Inn for refreshments.
