We had had a welcome splash of rain overnight with a number of thunderstorms and this rain carried on into the late morning. However about 1pm the day became bright and sunny so not wanting to waste it we set off for Arnside to park up on the Arnside - Silverdale road near Arnside Tower farm. From here we made our way up the Knott to enjoy some decent views to Lakeland and the Howgills. After descending to the car we carried on to Arnside to enjoy a delicous icecream sat on the pier.

Arnside Tower farm from our parking place.

After crossing the road and entering the woods the path contours slightly to the right to pick up a wall which is followed upwards to a corner. There is a choice at this point, either continue upwards through the woods or follow the wall a short distance to exit the woods onto the open spaces of Red Hills.

Today we chose the latter option preferring the warm sun and better views as we headed upwards.

Although not crystal clear the views to the Eastern and Far Eastern Fells of Lakeland were quite good with the OFL of Whitbarrow in front.

Behind us the Howgill Fells.

As we gain a little height the Arnside viaduct across the River Kent comes into view.

Looking over Low Foulshaw which lies on the Cumbria Coastal Way towards the Whinfell Ridge about 16.5 miles away

And over Haverbrack to the Howgill Fells.

To the west over the estuary of the River Kent lays Grange over Sands with the the OFL of Hampsfell behind.

Over Newton Fell to the Coniston Fells.

A distant Ingleborough from the eastern side of the Knott

Looking down on Arnside Tower and the farm. The pens in front of the farm are for the rearing of pheasants for the shoots.

Southwards to the power stations at Heysham.

Some locals chilling out near the summit.

Looks like that seat as taken a bit of weight at one time.

Making our way to the viewpoint with the Lover's Tree on the right.

Northwards from the viewpoint.

As we start to descend a look over Heathwaite to Humphrey Head which at the dizzy height of 172 feet must be lowest hill top that AW recorded in his Lakeland Guides.

The Isle of Man ferry is just leaving Heysham Harbour.

A look towards Ward's Stone and the hills of the Forest of Bowland

A look back as we make our way down to the bridleway.

Making our way along the bridleway at the southern end of the Knott back to the car.

Close up Ingleborough

On returning to the car we drove down to Arnside for a delicious icecream.

Eaten on the pier at Arnside whilst enjoying a cooling see breeze.....perfect, just perfect.
