It had been our intention to visit the South West corner of the Lake District today but as we travelled along the promenade we could see that the weather was not what we wanted for the walk in mind. We therefore carried on towards the South Lakes and as we were approaching Staveley Edith suggested that we do Hugill Fell and Reston Scar so that she could hopefully see Jess the springer spaniel that accompanied us on a walk last year around this time. We left the car in Staveley and walked up the Kentmere road to access the fells at the bungalow where Jess lives. As we walked up the lane towards the bungalow a blur of fur appeared and made such a fuss of Edith.....read on.
We left the car at Staveley. Looking towards Reston Scar it was still quite dull.
There wasn't too much water coming over the weir across the River Kent at Barley Bridge as we walked up the road towards Kentmere.
After a short while we came to the lane up to the bungalow. As we walked up the lane suddenly there was a flash of fur......
....and Jess who we had met on a previous walk here bounded down the lane to make such a fuss of Edith.
Jess had already decided she was coming with us but Edith went to the bungalow to check it was OK.....can you spot Jess waiting?
As we made our way up a view back over the bungalow
"Hurry up you two!!"
Already wet through, having been in the beck, Jess decides to pass some more love and muck onto Edith.
One moment a quite good pose on the AW summit of Hugill Fell....
.....the next a more natural one as Jess nearly as Edith over trying to lick her.
Looking across the lower Kentmere valley towards Brunt Knott.
And towards our next summit, the true top of Hugill Fell.
And to our final summit, that of Reston Scar.
Looking along the Kentmere valley
Having made the short crossing we are now on the true summit of Hugill Fell. Pity about the low cloud but who cares Edith is as happy as Larry.
"Do you have to keep on taking my picture, I want to be off"
Reluctantly on the lead (yes, Edith still as it in the rucsac) as we approach a few inquisitive young cows.
A look back and it seems to be getting better weatherwise.
Inquisitive youngsters.
We were soon on the summit of Reston Scar where Jess made short work of my meat pie and most of Ediths.
A pleasant spot to while away some time.
Close up Langdales.
Jess, having devoured the pies waits patiently to see if there's owt else.
The clouds are lifting a little.
A big sloppy "thank you"
The views are certainly improving so a decision is made to return the same way rather than via Staveley. Jess is in full agreement with this as it allows more time to charge about.
Looking over to Brunt Knott as we start our return.
Back on the true summit of Hugill Fell she finds a watering stop near the cairn.
Looking into Upper Kentmere with Mardale Ill Bell at its head.
Towards Sour Howes and Sallows with a gloomy Red Screes between.
Goodness knows how far she as been, she never stopped the whole time.
Back at the Wainwright summit.
Perfection.....my beloved Kentmere.
The bungalow comes into sight.....we were thinking "will she go or not"
Not a chance!!!.....even when her owner called she stayed with us probably hoping we would head back up again.
Time to say bye!!!......"will you come again lady?".....every day if Edith had her way.
The weir as we return to Kentmere.
And finally.....back to the car
