As we set off northwards along the M6 I was really looking forward to walking in the sun again. As we passed through the Lune gorge with the magnificent Howgillsto our right there was lots of blue in the sky and it remained that way until we arrived at Penrith. As we headed along the A66 towards Keswick the sky quickly filled in and it became quite dull. It isn't that long ago that we last did this walk but it was at the request of the boss-lady so who am I to argue.

Route Map

We left the car at the roadside near the stone circle with views of Blencathra.

There was already plenty of folk about as we approached the circle.

Castlerigg and Blencathra.

Skiddaw and Lonscale Fell with the rising slope to Latrigg in front.

Rather gloomy North Western fells.

A young family make their way to the circle. We were to see them again later at Tewet Tarn.

Whinlatter Fells in silhouette.

Low Rigg and High Rigg with Clough Head, Calfhow Pike and Watson's Dodd behind as we make our way across to Sykes.

Looking down the valley to Brown Cove Crags and Lower Man.

Low Nest and Blencathra.

Looking towards Shoulthwaite with Dodd Crag and Goat Crag.

Our way ahead with High Rigg ahead and Clough Head behind.

Low Rigg and Sykes.

A look back over Sykes.

The Youth Centre

St John in the Vale church.

Now on our way to Tewet Tarn and looking over to Threlkeld Knotts and Clough Head

Looking over to the Skiddaws

Blencathra over Tewet Tarn

Tewet Tarn.

From Tewet Tarn we walked down to Naddle Bridge....

.....before taking the field paths up to Goosewell Farm

Goosewell Farm

And finally a short walk brought us back to our starting point where this cool chappie had thoughtfully parked only two cars length away.

Next Walk:      1st August 2010 - South Cumbria - Farleton Fell

Last Walk:     28th July 2010 - Arnside & Silverdale - Trowbarrow and the Pepper Pot
