The weather in August continues in the same vein as that in July. Today a wet and breezy morning gave way to a slightly brighter early afternoon so we made our way to Crag Foot for a short walk.
Route Map
Having parked the car near Crag Foot at the start of the lane to the RSPB hides we walked along the lane with this view over to Crag Foot and Warton Crag.
We are on the route of the Lancashire Coastal Way. Where the lane turns off to the left at the end we leave it to cross this bridge over the outfall from Leighton Moss. On the OS it shows the path crossing the fields. In reality just follow the crest of flood protection embankment..
Over to our left are the pools of the RSPB sanctuary part of the Leighton Moss project.
To our right Farleton Knott is in the distance.
And again in close up.
We would follow the embankment and then turn left along the shoreline.
The gulleys seem to get wider each time we come.
Passing the chimney of what was an old copper smelting furnace......or so I am told.
The gully as got so wide here that the old bridge over it as collapsed into it.
A look towards gloomy Bowland hills.
Jenny Browns Point.
Just past the cottages we left the shore utilising this old slipway.
Walking along the single track lane towards Jack Scout we pass this old quarry on the right.
We have just entered the area known as Jack Scout now. The breakwater is one of a series of "training walls" built along the shoreline to try and keep the main channels offshore. Look carefully and you see a couple of fishing rods on the far left. I didn't have the heart to tell the two guys waiting for the tide to come in that it would be at least another 3 hours!!
Looking across to Grange and Kents Bank from Jack Scout.
Barely visible in the gloom, the Giant's Chair is occupied.
Passing the re-furbished limekiln as we leave Jack Scout.
Wolf House Gallery and Cafe at Gibraltar but no time to stop today.
A short walk down the road and then up the lane to the pond at Woodwell.
From Woodwell we made our way to the minor road which would take us to our return path.
Plenty of snacks along the way.
This path will take us back through the woods to the embankment.
As we made our way though the woods it looked as if the sun was trying to get through.
A little brighter perhaps but nowt to write home about.
Back along the embankment now.
The Barrow train passes by.....possibly the highlight of the walk!! ;-)
And another walk with dour pictures draws to an end.
