It had been the intention today to include the summit of Holme Fell in this walk but my knee was far too sore by the time we reached Hodge Close that I thought it wise to leave it alone. Nevertheless a rather cloudy start soon gave way to lots of sunny spells as we walked over from High Tilberthwaite into Little Langdale and down to Slater Bridge. Having walked up to Stang End we made our way back via Hodge Close. Finally on the way home we stopped off at Coniston for tea and cakes at the Bluebird cafe.

Route Map......walk done in a clockwise direction.

It was rather cloudy when we arrived at Tilberthwaite but the forecast was for it to brighten.

Yewdale Beck

A short walk along the lane took us to the farmhouse at High Tilberthwaite from where we took the rising path to the path.

There are signs of brightness as we look back.

Before long the clouds start to break and the sun brightens our way ahead.

As we reach the highest point of the track Lingmoor comes into view along with some locals.

Edith attempts to make friends.

It's all downhill for a while now so I can breathe properly again.

The fells to the east of us are still cloud covered.

Blake Rigg and Pike O'Blisco are just brushed by the clouds.

The Langdales just start to appear between Blake Rigg and Lingmoor.

Lingmoor and Little Langdale Tarn

High Hall Garth as we drop down into Little Langdale

Slaters Bridge

And again from t'other side.

We walked up to the road all the times opening up the views up the valley

Having walked down the road a short distance we took a lane down to the ford getting this picture of the Three Shires on the way.

Looking up to Stang End where we are heading.

The bridge at the ford as been replaced since our last visit.

Looking back from Stang End. From Stang End we took the bridleway to Hodge Close.

Entering Hodge Close.

Helvellyn & Fairfield Fells from Hodge Close

Wetherlam

The old quarry

Cottages on our way back to Tilberthwaite.

Holme Ground.

Just past Holme Ground we took a path back to High Tilberthwaite.

As I approached the two calves to try and get a closer picture the two mothers who were some way away from us charged across making a noise but not really in a threatening manner. However discretion prevailed and we let them be.

Tilberthwaite cottages. We decided to call in at Coniston on the way home.

After leaving the car near the school we walked down to see how the Bluebird Cafe was progressing and to have a pot of tea and some cake.

What a wonderful combination of views there are from here. Water, forests and mountains.

I liked how the small waves gave this swan a bit of a crooked neck.

It looks like the Bluebird is still some way from completion after the November 2009 floods but it is still operating from the portacabins.

And finally a stop at Brown Howe on the way home for my favourite view of Coniston Water.
