After having a few "test runs" and posting them on Facebook I was looking forward to getting out today to give the new camera a proper try out. There as been a bit of joking on Facebook as to whose birthday present the camera really was for but as Edith told me to get it I'm sticking to the idea that it was hers and that I am merely the user. Unfortunately, even though it was our wedding anniversary today Edith was not with me as it was Tuesday and her visiting day. The day looked bright enough as I set off from home but soon clouded over and by the time I arrived at Pelter Bridge it was quite dull.
Route Map
Having managed to squeeze the car into what appeared to be the last remaining space in the car park I made my way up the lane.
The views seem OK but it's quite dull at this point.
I couldn't resist a long zoom in on Silver How.
A look back over Rydal Water to Nab Scar as I walk up to the old quarries.
From the old quarry I made my way along Loughrigg Terrace.
A look back to Low Pike and Red Screes.
Left turn here to keep to the higher path.
Low cloud passes over Low Pike and Red Screes
A partial zoom in on Helm Crag
A full zoom picks out a couple on there way up. (Distance 2.6miles)
Silver How over Grasmere.
Looking to Dunmail.
Grasmere panorama.
Looking over Dunmail to Lonscale Fell (Distance 13.5mls)
After leaving the Terrace Route I walked down through Deerbolts Wood
Now on the shore of Grasmere and the cloud is down on Nab Scar
Over Grasmere to Silver How
No chance of any reflections today with a moderate breeze.
Helm Crag.
The weir on Grasmere as I cross the footbridge.....
.....into the lovely Penny Rock Woods.
A fast flowing River Rothay.
Having walked to the car park at White Moss I crossed the A591 to take the path up to the Rydal - Grasmere corpse road.....
.....passing by this fall on my way.
A distant Wetherlam, Swirl How and Great Carrs.
Great Carrs close up.
This la'al chappie was perched on a post about 25' away watching me.
I'm not sure what the RSPB would say but it thoroughly enjoyed a bit of Ainsley Herriot's Chicken & Vegetable soup with a bit of bread.
I made my way along the corpse road to Rydal where I popped into.....
Rydal Hall to have a look at....
The Grot and lower falls in Rydal Beck.
From Rydal Hall it was only a short walk back to the car.
As I drove back to Ambleside it seemed to be brighter to the east so I decided to return via Kirkstone and Troutbeck. Stopped in the lay-by for this shot of the Troutbeck Tongue backed by the Kentmere Fells.
And one last zoom to the cairns on Ill Bell
