A real mixed bag today. The weatherman was  saying that the morning would start bright and later cloud over with showers. Not being able to do early starts anymore, it takes me too long to get going in the morning nowadays we had decided on a short walk local to home. Unfortunately things didn't quite go to plan......

The "Mother and Venus" statue on the east promenade at Morecambe. It looks quite cloudy over Lakeland, not at all what the weatherman had given.

We parked the car at Crag Foot with the intention of walking round to Jenny Brown's Point.

A look over Barrow Scout Fields towards Crag Foot and Warton Crag.

This is the outfall from Leighton Moss. Our route would take us over the bridge to our left but first a visit to a couple of the hides.

Looking over to Jenny Brown's Point from the Allen Hide.

And again from the Eric Morecambe (of Morecambe and Wise fame), hide.

Looking towards Morecambe from the Eric Morecambe hide.

Colourful fungi on a branch floating at the side of the path.

Making our way back to the outlet from Leighton Moss.

The path, part of the final (or initial) leg of the Lancashire Coastal Way follows the raised embankment.

As we followed the embankment the day started to worsen with some light rain. We decided to turn right at the end of the embankment to take the path through the woods and to see if the day improved.

A close up of Farleton Fell to our north.

Leaving the embankment and with no improvement in the weather we took a very muddy path towards the woods.

A look over to our start point.

These woods are delight to walk through in springtime when the rich aroma of wild garlic fills the air....

...Today however we have to make do with the mossy walls and limestone outcrops.

On leaving the woods we found that the weather hadn't improved at all and decided to walk back to the car. Here we are looking over Slackwood Farm and Leighton Moss.

Slackwood Farm.

Almost back to the car and a zoom to Farleton Fell

As so often happens when we were changing at the car the day brightened. It wasn't to last long but it did give us the opportunity of visiting the old quarry on Warton Crag.

The quarry is very popular with the climbers but is closed at certain times to allow the birds to breed. Note the white cross about 1.5" from the right.

A very ornate but cold looking seat.

A look down the bay towards home and there is rain on the way.

And finally.....the flooded fields at Warton bear testimony to the recent wet weather.
