By myself today as Edith is still a wee bit under the weather. I had decided on this walk the previous evening and made an earlyish getaway to arrive at the Gummers How car park around 9am. It was rather a grey morning but there was some light around and I was hoping that the day would improve.

Gummer's How as I walked up the road.

There's blue sky over the Conistons, hopefully things will improve here.

Looking along Sow How Lane

This is a rather unusual walk in that my starting point at the Gummers How car park (650feet) is higher than the summit I am going to Cartmel Fell (Raven's Barrow 490feet). Here I am approaching Sow How Farm to the noise of many yapping dogs.

Sow How Farm.....lots of la'al terriers here, all noisy but no bother.

I followed the path out of the farm and then took the left hand branch.

This la'al chappie had decided to come along with me. Has I was returning this way there was no problem.

The path leads down to Sow How Tarn hidden behind the trees. You may be able to spot a tractor down there and it was there that I lost my companion when it was rather ungraciously put into the tractor cab by one of the guys.

A grey morning at Sow How Tarn. This is a delightful spot and nearly always very quiet.

The beck from Sow How Tarn.

The bridge over the beck.

My path follows the tyre tracks upwards and to the right

Another view of the tarn and boathouse.

A look back

The path then enters a wooded area for a short while

A first view of my objective.

Heights Cottage

The day is not improving at all as can be seen by the rather gloomy shot towards Arnside Knott with the south end of Whitbarrow to the left.

The monument lies just below the highest part of the fell.

A seat for one.

The views aren't up to much but I'm not feeling to bad and it's good to be out again.

Whitbarrow across the lovely Winster valley.

There are signs of brightening but they didn't last to long.

Time to return and it's just a case of about turn.

Back at Heights Cottage

It is a tad brighter but nowt to write home about.

I love this spot....but today the Swans were either hiding or on holiday.

The breeze as dropped a bit giving the chance of some poor reflections.

Back at the farm and there is no sign of my friend.

A zoom in on Gummer's How, strangely unoccupied.

Looks like someone else as been having the sun!

And finally.....back to the car.
