This was a walk I should have never done. When I got up in the morning I thought I was starting with a cold and the weather was dull, cold and misty. However Edith had a fairly busy day preparing a buffet meal for the family later in the day for our daughters 40th birthday. I thought I would get from under her feet by going to Arnside for a few hours but as soon as I got out of the car on the promenade there I was coughing and spluttering with the cold, damp air on my chest. Foolishly I decided to carry on regardless but by the time I had reached New Barns I had had enough so made my way back to the car by the shortest route.

A dull, dour and damp day at Arnside. The air temperature was around 3°C and as soon as I got out of the relatively warm car my lungs were complaining.

There wasn't even that much to see as I set off towards New Barns.

Even Whitbarrow was hiding itself today.

Ashmeadow, once a school, now an old folks home.

There are high tides today and I suspect that these two guys are hoping to ride the bore as the tide races up the estuary.

There are a few anglers about but I never saw anything being caught.

The Coastguard Station.

Oh Joy! .....this is such fun as I cough and splutter my way down towards New Barns. As I suspected the two guys in canoes are making there way down to New Barns to wait for the tide.

The path along the shore was muddier than normal, due probably to the high tides.

A look back along the shore.

And ahead to New Barns.

In a short while all this will be under water.

It had been my intention to go up this path and up Arnside Knott but I wasn't feeling to bright at all and there would be nowt to see so I carried on along the lane back to Arnside.

I took the path down to the beach at this point.

Rather than going along the beach I took the path through the Beachwood Nature Reserve.

Finally, a touch of colour.

A visit to see Barry at the Beach Walk Cafe whilst I waited for the bore.

I emerged from the cafe to see what was a very poor bore considering the height of the tide. This is probably due to the estuary being so much flatter than it used to be.

There were however a number of people waiting to see it. There are also a couple of possibly disappointed canoeists in the distance.

Nearly back to the car and I think these folk haven't realised that the bore as passed them.
