I was by myself today and as soon as I had dropped Edith off at her brothers for the day I was on my way to Sunny Bank near Torver with a short stop at Brown Howe. It was a glorious morning and I arrived just as the mist to starting to clear from Coniston Water. Unfortunately the warm spell with temperatures reaching around 26°C meant the views were a tad hazy to distant fells.

Route Map

When in the area, particularly in the morning I can never resist stopping at Brown Howe for the views up Coniston Water. Today the mist was still lingering along the lake.

I parked the car near Sunny Bank adjacent to where the Cumbria Way crosses the A5084 with a view of Anne Riggs opposite.

I took the Cumbria Way to follow it down to the lakeside near the Sunny Bank jetty.

I was hoping that as the day warmed the hazy stuff would burn away.

The path makes it way northwards sometimes near the waters edge sometimes passing through the woods.

Gorgeous reflections in the still waters of the lake.

It was getting warmer now but the haziness still persisted.

However it would be petty to complain.

Torver landing.

Hoathwaite

Cloud-topped Coniston Old Man.

Coniston Old Man & Brim Fell from near Coniston Hall.

Yewdale Fells from Coniston Hall.

C.O.M again.

Yachts at Coniston Hall. It was around here that I turned about to make my way back.

The Steam Yacht Gondola.....originally launched in 1859 and completely rebuilt by the National Trust.

What a gorgeous morning they have for a cruise on the lake.

Coniston Old Man from my butty stop.

Before long I was back at the Torver landing and from there took the track up towards Brackenbarrow farm before diverting onto Torver Back Common.

It's a shame about the haze but it is a lovely viewpoint all the same.

Looking directly into the sun towards Long Moss with Beacon Fell behind.

Long Moss.

It is a lovely la'al spot and so easy to get to.

Hazy Coniston Fells.

The delectable Kelly Hall Tarn. The two guys were from the Land Rover garage nearby and were on their...

.....lunch-break. The dog was with them and was enjoying the water on a very warm day.
