---------------------------------------------------------------

It was a glorious morning as we set off from home but as soon as we got to the promenade at Morecambe we could see that once again the misty clag was still about and the views across the bay were no-existent. Hoping that it was a coastal thing we decided to carry on towards the Lakes and see if it would clear. However by the time we reached Sizergh Castle we had lost the sun and it was a miserable looking day. It did however look brighter to the east so we headed that way along the A590 and A65 to Kirkby Lonsdale for this short walk.

We parked up near the Devil's Bridge and made our way towards the River Lune.

Looking upstream from Devil's Bridge.

Devil's Bridge

From Devil's Bridge we took the riverside path towards the town.

A look back towards Devil's Bridge with the A65 road bridge behind.

As the path reaches a left bend in the river parts of it have been washed away in floods and a little care is needed for a short section.

Eventually we reach an area known as Mill Ayre where a lane leads up into Kirkby Lonsdale for those wanting to avoid the next section.

We carried on along a concrete section to reach....

The Radical Steps.....this is one of my "MOT Stations" where I can (at least in my head determine whether my C.O.P.D. is getting any worse. 86 steep, uneven steps from bottom to top and done in one lung bursting effort before almost collapsing in a heap at the top.....and a look that says "you bl**dy nutter" from Edith.  Still it makes me feel better....eventually.

On reaching the top however we are met with the lover "Ruskin's View". The striped barn in the distance only slightly spoils the view. For those who would like to know why the farmer painted it this way take a look....HERE

From Ruskin's View we continued along a path passing the Rugby field....

.....before descending towards Underley Park.

We passed over a rather ornate bridge to turn left towards Home Farm.

A look eastwards to Brownthwaite Pike across the River Lune.

A glimpse of Underley Hall with Middleton Fell behind.

The work continues at the Estate offices..

Leaving Underley Park we had a short walk along the quiet road back to Kirkby Lonsdale.

St Mary's Church, Kirkby Lonsdale dates back to Norman times.

Gridlock.....a common sight on the narrow streets.

Market Square.

On our way back now to Devil's Bridge.

And finally.....a bacon buttie!!
