I was by myself today and with not much time available as I wanted to be back in time for the Burnley v Leeds match on the TV. I'm not a supporter of either side but I do like to see the occasional live match on the box.  I was away straight after breakfast and once again the misty haze was still in attendance. I was soon parked up at Crag Foot for this easy walk and just made it back home in time for the match.

Route Map

A fine sunny morning as I stopped off at Morecambe for a couple of pictures.

Having parked up at Crag Foot I made my way along the Lancashire Coastal Way towards Jenny Brown's point.

Although shown as crossing the fields on the OS Map the path actually follows the top of the embankment.

Looking down the bay towards Morecambe.

Heading along the embankment towards Heald Brow where I would turn left along the foreshore.

A look northwards to Farleton Knott which in a few days time would have some significance for me....

....and over the salt marsh towards Jenny Brown's Point.

Making my way along the foreshore towards Jenny B's

It looks like a little more salt marsh is lost to the sea each time I come.

A look back....

....and ahead to the chimney.

Brown's Houses at Jenny Brown's Point. Jenny Brown apparently was a nanny who drowned here whilst saving her charges from the rising tide.

A look down the beautiful but extremely dangerous sands of Morecambe Bay towards home.

When I was a kid the local fisherman at Morecambe used to call this a training wall. It was built around 1873 as part of an ambitious land reclamation scheme but the company ran out of money and the scheme was abandoned.

From Jenny Brown's a short walk down the lane led me to the NT's Jack Scout an area of heathland.

Looking over to Kent's Bank and Humphrey Head as I enter Jack Scout.

I followed the cliff edge path for a while with views across to Grange and Hampsfell....

....before leaving it for a short climb up to....

....the Giant's Seat. It would have been nice to sit awhile but time & tide blah blah blah!

The renovated Lime Kiln at Jack Scout.

A short walk down the lane took me to the road at Gibraltar...

....from where it was only a few minutes walk to Woodwell.

From Woodwell I took a path through Bottoms Wood....

....past Woodwell Cottage...

...to enter Silverdale. I had walked some of the way with a local gent who informed me that the old pub had been bought by Holgates who own the camping & caravan sites at nearby Far Arnside but there was some doubt about what there plans are for the site.

I walked through the village and the grounds of the church to pick up the field paths to The Row.

Looking over Elmslack to the Pepper Pot.

No sheepdog trials today as I walked across the fields.

Farleton Knott in the distance.

Looking over to the delightful Eaves Wood.

Approaching The Row where I would turn right for a return along the road to the car....

.....passing by the Silverdale Golf Club.

Looking over the railway line to Leighton Moss.

Almost back as I pass the outlet beck from Leighton Moss.

Looking over towards Crag Foot.

Next Walk:      24th November 2011 - South Cumbria - 150 up in 2011 on Farleton Knott

Last Walk:       17th November 2011 - South Cumbria - A walk at Kirkby Lonsdale.
