A glorious fine and sunny day had us away to the Central Lakes for this walk from Pelter Bridge. We would normally have returned via the Corpse Road to Rydal but decided on a road walk back.

Route Map.

Our first view of Rydal Water after walking up the lane from the car park and it looks like we could have a good day.

A short walks up the permissive path towards the old workings.

Loughrigg Cave or Quarry always seems to grab many peoples attention.

A look over Rydal Water towards Low & High Pike with Red Screes behind.

And again to Nab Scar.

Making our way along Loughrigg Terrace with Silver How ahead and Sergeant Man in the distance.

We decided to keep to the upper path although a bit of that sunshine would have been more than welcome.

A look back.

Grasmere comes into view but still we are in the shadow of Loughrigg.

A look along Grasmere towards Helm Crag.

Seat Sandal, Stone Arthur, Great Rigg, Heron Pike and Nab Scar from Loughrigg Terrace.

A final look along Grasmere before we leave the terrace route....

...to walk down through Deerbolts Wood. Instead of taking the zig-zag path down to the shore we left the woods at the cottage to walk a short way down the road to access the shore of Grasmere...

....where there was a bit more sun to enjoy.

Things seem so much better with some sun on you.

Down at the lakeside there was a gentle breeze which spoilt any chance of reflections but took nothing away from the views.

We found ourselves a spot to enjoy our coffee and were soon joined...

....first by him...

....then by her...

....and finally by this little chappie who all tucked into some seeds that Edith had in her bag.

Good companions all and a view to match.....perfick!!

We made our way to the bottom end of the lake...

....towards the weir.

A look along Grasmere...

..from where we walked past the weir...

....to cross the footbridge into the delightful Penny Rock Woods...Why Penny Rock?....I believe they were so named because the local rates where raised by 1 penny (pre-decimal of course) to cover the cost of blasting through the rock when the nearby road was built.

Whatever the reason they are always a delight to walk through.

The River Rothay between Grasmere and Rydal Water as we make our way towards the car park at White Moss.

We would usually make our way up to the corpse road at White Moss to return to Rydal that way but I wanted to keep things easy and decided on following the road back.

Looking down Rydal Water towards Wansfell as we make our way back.

Passing by the Badger Bar.

And finally.....back at Pelter Bridge.
